Biography
DR Jehad Zweiri, lecturer in Cancer studies at the University of Liverpool Medical School, born and grew up in Jordan and received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Jordan. He obtained his master degree from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine/University of London, and then obtained his PhD degree in 2000 from Kings College Medical School/University of London, in the field of Immune Gene Therapy of Cancer under the supervision of Professor Farzin Farzaneh. He then started his work as Postdoctoral Associate at the department of Immunology and Medicine at the University of Liverpool in 2002. In 2010 he was appointed as a lecturer in the University of Liverpool Medical School and he is currently fellow of the British Higher Education Academy since 2012.
Research Interest
1) Inflammation: Acute inflammation is a defense process whereas chronic inflammation is a disease process. 2) Hyper secretion of mucus: is the result of goblet cell hyperplasia in respiratory mucosa and is a prominent future of inflammation. They go together. Chronic mucus hyper secretion is a potential risk factor for an accelerated loss of lung function. The thick viscous mucus in the lungs will be conducive to pathogens. Currently available medicines and methods are not able to meet the needs of the sufferers. Continued inflammation and mucus hyper secretion may significantly contribute to transformation of normal cells into cancer cells i.e. the scope for series of mutations on Genes may get increased. 3) Bronchospasm: is an additional factor in asthma patients.
Biography
Surgeon Paik was born in Iksan, Jeonbuk, Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine, ther after served as director of Korea Cancer Center Hospital, director of Konkuk University Medical Center, chairman of Korean Breast Cancer Society and chairman of Asia Breast Cancer Society. In 1986, he became the first surgeon to carry out breast-conserving surgery (BCS) in Korea. In 1991, he developed ‘Paik Nam-sun Stomach Cancer Surgery’ that reduces the risk of reflux oesophagitis. Such achievements earned him a spot on a list of the world’s top 100 gastric and breast cancer surgeons, unveiled by the international Biographical Center of Cambridge in the UK in 2006. “The sufferings of breast cancer patients do not end after surgery. Breast cancer survivors, who had to have their breasts removed or disfigured, cannot go to public bathhouses or get divorced by their husbands. Biography
Dr Mari Aparici, MD is a Clinical Professor at Stanford University. She is a Nuclear Physician with residencies in both Europe (Barcelona) and US (Stanford), and with Molecular imaging fellowships from Stanford University. She is a physician-scientist in the development of Molecular Imaging. She has more than 20 years of clinical and research experience in the field, more than 10 years of a leadership position as Chief Nuclear Medicine at the San Francisco VAMC as part of her prior appointment as a UCSF faculty member, and now as Head of the Theranostics and Nuclear Therapies program at Stanford University. She has published more than 100 papers in reputed journals, has been serving as an editorial board member of reputed journals, has been PI of NIH and non-NIH grants and serves as a member of several to committees at her University and several Societies.
